George D. Antholz, youngest child of Henry Antholz and Eleanor Margarethe Schmidt Antholz, was born on his parent's farm at Elk Creek, Nebraska, on April 20th, 1901. He was presented into the Lord by Holy Baptism on May 28, 1901.
At the age of nine, he moved with his ailing mother and sister to Newkirk, Oklahoma, where they made their home with an elder sister. While there, he was confirmed into the Lutheran faith.
During his eighteenth year, he moved to Western Kansas, where he joined his father and brothers in farming. From early manhood, he was a consecrated man of the soil; and enjoyed the privilege of being a tennant of God's land.
George Antholz was united in marriage to Ethel Jacobs on May 28, 1924, at Winfield, Kansas. They came immediately to his farm home at McDonald, Kansas, where they spent most of their married life. To this union three children came to bless their happy home.
George lived a full life, his blessings were many. He was a kind, devoted husband and father, and took great pride and joy in his family and home. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him, and was ever ready with a helping hand in time of need, leaving us with many fond memories.
In 1956, he purchased a home in Burlington, Colorado, where he and his wife have since resided. For the last three and one-half months, Mr. Antholz's health had been failing. On October 21st, he entered the Presbyterian Hospital at Denver, Colorado, where the best medical skill was furnished,--but to no avail. When the Lord called "He was ready" and passed away peacefully early Thursday morning (3:25 A.M.) October 31st at the age of 56 years, 6 months and eleven days.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Ethel; one son, Don, of McDonald, Kansas; two daughters, Dorothy Gaines of McDonald and Carol Mears of Benkelman, Nebraska; two grandsons, Kevin Mears and Robbin Antholz; three granddaughters, Brenda and Claudia Gaines, and Monica Mears; one daughter-in-law, Florence Antholz; two sons-in-law, Wiley Gaines and Gene Mears; one sister, Louise Huffman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers, Henry of Montrose, Colorado, William and Adolph of McDonald. Also a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. May he rest in peace.
Funeral services were held at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Bird City, Kansas at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, November 3rd with the Reverend Ralph R. Radloff officiating. Mrs. Doris Radloff was at the organ and accompanied the members of St. John's Choir, who sang, "I'm But A Stranger Here" and "Asleep in Jesus". Pall bearers were nephews of Mr. Antholz: Arthur Antholz, Carl Antholz, Edwin Antholz, Clarence Merz, Ludwig Merz and Walter Merz. Interment was in the Grace Cemetery, Mcdonald, Kansas.
