Ross was born to Harry E. and Esther West Archer March 24, 1933 at the home place where he grew to adulthood. He died at the Rawlins County Health Center on Jan. 31, 2007.
He attended school at McDonald and graduated from McDonald Rural High School in 1951. Ross attended Kansas State at Manhattan where he studied agricultural engineering. He then returned to the farm where he farmed with his father and brother, Arlie.
In 1967, he started driving a truck for Archer Farms, Inc., hauling grain, cattle and produce for the next 23 years.
Ross was a member of the McDonald Federated Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 383, of which he was a Past Master of McDonald. He was a member of Progressive Chapter 396 Order of Eastern Star, and then transferred to St. Francis Lodge and Eastern Star #404, where he received a 50 year membership in 2005.
Ross always enjoyed the McDonald Alumni school gatherings during Memorial weekend, where he visited classmates and other friends.
He also enjoyed taking several trips that included Cuba, Panama Canal and two trips to Hawaii. As time went on, his traveling ceased due to bad health.
Ross is survived by his brother Arlie and wife, Delores; nephew Alan Archer of McDonald; nieces, Diana June Archer of Colorado Springs and Joyce Ann and husband, Billy McDaniel, of Valley Center; great-nephew Tristan Archer of McDonald St. Francis(?); great-nieces, Megan Cram of Los Angeles, Calif., and Faith Ann McDaniel of Valley Center; several cousins, and a host of friends who will greatly miss him.
Services were held Feb. 17 at Knodel Funeral Home with Pastor Fran Harwerth officiating.
Inurnment will follow at a later date.
Knodel Funeral Home of St. Francis was in charge of the arrangements.
