George Bateman Anawalt, a son of Samuel and Agnes [née Webster] Anawalt, was born in the bounds of Carroll in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
George was working as a carpenter in Cincinnati, Ohio when the Civil War broke out. He enlisted in Company G, Ohio 5th Infantry Regiment on 20 Apr 1861.
After the war, George married Miss Mary Ann Ewan, a daughter of John and Sylvia [née Hankins] Ewan from Clermont County. George and Anna, as Mary Ann was known, lived in Cincinnati; where George continued to work in the construction business.
George Bateman Anawalt departed this life at the age of 37 on October 17th 1873. In his Last Will & Testament; filed in Hamilton County, Ohio on December 5th 1873, he leaves his estate to his wife Anna and a niece, Agnes.
Years later, Anna, applies and receives a "widows pension" for his service during the war.
