Mary Ann Ewan, daughter of John and Sylvia [née Hankins] Ewan, was born February 9th 1841. A few years before her family had emigrated from Galloway in Gloucester County, New Jersey to the area around Bantam in Clermont County, Ohio. Known as Anna, she was the 8th of eleven known children.
In 1867, Anna married George Bateman Anawalt, a son of Samuel and Agnes [née Webster] Anawalt from Washington County, Pennsylvania. Anna and George lived in Cincinnati, where George was a master carpenter & builder. There are no known children born to this union.
After George died in 1873, Anna continued to live in Cincinnati. In July 1890, Anna applied and recieved a 'widows pension' for George's service in Co. G, 5th Ohio Infantry during Civil War.
