Charles was the youngest child, born in 1795, London. England. He had some schooling which is evidenced by his excellent command of the english language as well as his fine Specerian penmanship, he attended school from 1798 to 1805 when at the age of 12 it was expected that boys would begin a life of work. He apprenticed as a metalsmith and for the next seven years worked with the soft base metals, gold, silver, and copper and to fabricate and form various alloys such as brass, pewter and bronze. His master was a mmember of the Religious Society of Friends, or Quakers. He taught Charles the value of simple living and strict honesty in business, of non violence between people and nations, humane treatment of mentally and physically handicapped persons and simplicity of dress and personalhabits. He was employed at Buckingham Palace as a silversmith for Queen Victoria. He enlisted in the Royal Navy and served for 3 years when he was 22 yrs old. He was also a Lay Preacher. He married Elizebeth Jarvis a Quakeress c. 1827 in London. He had a quite extensive collection of poetry, mostly religious. The origionals which are held by the Van der Slice family--calf skin ledgers with the Royal Watermark on the paper. Charles died in 1845 of cholera, leaving a widow with little means and nine young children. Click on spouse to see list of children.
Charles Austin died in the Gray Coat Hospital in London of a lingering illness in 1845.
NOT SURE ON THE CEMETERY, but they were Quakers.
