Ricky Van Murphy passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010. He was born December 11, 1953 in Morgan County and was a resident of Hartselle.
Mr. Murphy was a business owner of 35 years and a licensed Alabama Homebuilder. He was a member of the National Aeronautic Association, Decatur Model Airplane Club and an active member of Friends of Bill W. and Dr. Bob. He was a Baptist, loved life, airplanes, his family and four beautiful grandchildren. His father, Van Olen Murphy, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Portia Murphy; two sons, Ricky Chad Murphy and Michael Jay Murphy and wife, Amanda, all of Hartselle; his mother, Norma Jean Milton of Decatur; three sisters, Savann Beason and husband, Jerry, of Decatur, Tammy Brown and husband, Lavern, of Decatur and Ginger Long and husband, Rufus, of Hillsboro; one brother, Olen Wade "Tom" Murphy of Decatur; four grandchildren, Chad Easton Murphy and Baylie Ann Murphy of Dallas, Ga., and Alanna Mae Evans and Jaycey Beth Murphy of Hartselle.
Visitation with the family to honor and celebrate his life will be Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mr. Murphy will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. with the eulogy given by Tom McClenny and Paul Sapp at Peck Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends, Jed Beason, Ben Murphy, Greg Brown, Mike Nix, Gene Herring and Michael Lang. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Sapp, Tom McClenny, Joe McBride and Scott.
