Subject: Ashmore's at Old Bethel Cemetery
"The Old Bethel Cemetery is north of Lawrenceburg. The cemetery is overgrown and hard to find. There was once an old log church located near the cemetery. Church records show that the original Bethel Missionary Baptist church was established in 1846. At one point, the cemetery had been cleared of brush and trees. There are rows of graves with fieldstones with no names. The "At Rest" Cemetery Book was compiled in 1967 and new names added once the cemetery was cleaned up because they found some they did not know was there.
There are six Ashmore's listed there: Joshua Bloomer, his wives, Elizabeth Burch and Lavina(h) Hughes; John (twin baby of Levinah and Joshua B, died January 1850); Mary (twin baby of Agnes Jane Burch Bell, died June 1858) and baby Ashmore (baby of Carroll Ashmore).
These names were verified in a letter from Hattie Elizabeth Alley Ashmore to her husband, Thad Ashmore in 1908.
You are welcome to any pictures or information that I post. Let me know if you need anything else. "
