Donald F. Pierson, Jr.
Jan 20, 1959 ~ Jan 26, 2013

Donald F. Pierson, Jr. 54, of South Bend, IN passed away at 12:20 p.m. January 26, 2013 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN surrounded by his family and friends.
Donny was born on January 20, 1959 in South Bend, IN to Donald and Joyce Pierson. On August 4, 1990 in St. Jude Catholic Church, South Bend, he married the former Barbara Marroni.

Donny is survived by his wife, Barbara and two sons, Kyle and Nicholas Pierson; his parents, Donald and Joyce Pierson of Plymouth, IN; three sisters, Anne Coomes of Prescott, AZ, Kathy (Richard) Eichstedt of Walkerton, IN and Mary (Rick) Sands of South Bend, IN; mother and father-in-law, John and Betty Marroni of South Bend, IN; two brothers-in-law, John Marroni Jr. of South Bend, IN and Dan Marroni of Los Angeles, CA and many nieces and nephews.

Donny was a lifelong resident. He attended St. Matthew Grade School and in 1977 graduated from Marion High School. During and after high school, he worked alongside his father in the family business, Pierson and Son Carpet Cleaning. Donny later worked for Marroni, Inc. as the service manager and technician, which he had to learn from the bottom up in a short time. He was a "people person"; able to make conversation for hours and then you were considered his friend. He was a fun loving guy who had a great sense of humor that made many people laugh.

In Donny's younger years, he was an active Boy Scout and athlete in grade school. His summers included baseball at South Side Little League. His father was his baseball coach and Donny continued the tradition by coaching his sons at South Side Little League and St. Matthew school which he really enjoyed. Donny played sports in high school, was a member of the Young Democrats and the C.O.R.E. group. He enjoyed his jeep and black van that were part of his many wild adventures with his friends. On summer weekends, you could find him at the Putt Putt tournament where he was known as "Disco Don". The Green Star Cafe was a gathering spot for him and his friends where they hung out and had a few laughs. Donny enjoyed playing in many bowling and dart leagues, participating in tournaments in other states. He also enjoyed cycling, golfing, hunting with his Uncle Lou and fishing with his father and Uncle Harvey.

Donny fought a long and courageous health battle for the last thirteen years, having diabetes, on dialysis, a blood disorder, amputation and a failed kidney transplant but still kept a positive attitude, making light of the situation with very little complaining. Each day was a gift for which he was thankful. As his health decline, his new past time was T.V. cooking shows and watching many sporting events. He loved watching the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He also spent his time playing computer "party poker" and backgammon.

Donny touched many lives and will always be remembered as a fun loving guy that could always make you laugh. His memory will be in the hearts of many people.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami St. South Bend, IN.
