CLIFFSIDE -- Pat Abernethy, 72, of Cliffside, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte. A native of Rutherford County, she was born on December 3, 1938, a daughter of the late Lassie R. and Pauline Addington Humphries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Max E. Humphries and two nephews Benjy Humphries and Curtis Humphries. She was an active member of Cliffside Baptist Church where she sang in the sanctuary choir, a member of the Tone Chimes, former Sunday School Teacher and active in Vacation Bible School. She was retired from Rutherford County Schools, having served as a 3rd grade teacher at Tri Community Elementary School and Cliffside Elementary School.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Abernethy of Shelby and two brothers, Ben Humphries of Cliffside and Charles 'Red' Humphries of Cliffside.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Cliffside Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Cantrell and Rev. William Stroud officiating. Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30pm - 8:30pm on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home.
