David Askew was the son of Thomas Askew of Isle of Wight County, VA. He had one brother, Aaron. They were orphaned and moved to Bertie County, NC most likely to purchase land where their uncles were living. He was born circa 1740-50.
The earliest known record for him in Bertie County, NC is a deed record in 1768 of the purchase of 150 acres from William Outlaw. By the year 1800 he had land acquisitions in Bertie County of about 1400 acres. He also owned land in Hertford County.
He married Millicent Outlaw of Bertie County, North Carolina. She is believed to be the daughter of Edward Outlaw. Millicent and David had 12 children: Celia (Holley), Rachel (Hare), David, Jr, Annorita (McGlauhon), John M., Josiah, Aaron, Christina (Godwin, Northcutt), George, Elizabeth (Shamble/y, Elisha and Mary (Wynns).
The Askew's were slave owners and large land owners.
