Forrest R. Brandt, 84, Erie, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Erie Christian Church. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mr. Brandt was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Morrison, the son of Gus and Vallie Goodenough Brandt. He attended Fenton and Erie schools, graduating from Erie High School in 1936. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Klendworth Sept. 17, 1938, in Erie.
Forrest was a member of Erie Christian Church, where he served as a deacon, chairman of the board, trustee and church treasurer. He was past master of the Erie Masonic Lodge, 667, past patron of the Evangeline Chapter, 52, Order of Eastern Star, Erie. He served on the Soil Conservation committee of Whiteside County and was on the Farm Home Administration (FHA) committee. He was Erie Township A.S.C. committeeman. He was a past member of the Erie Co-op Elevator Board. He helped organize and served as chairman of the board of the Lake Erie Country Club. He was a member of the Double I Antique Car Club of Clinton, Iowa.
Forrest enjoyed antiques of various kinds, including toys and antique machinery. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. He and his wife spent the winters in Florida since 1973. He farmed in the Erie area all of his life.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Steve Jackson, rural Garden Plain; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Barbara Brandt, Port Byron; grandchildren and their spouses, J.D. and Deb Jackson, Melissa Brandt, Greg and Michelle Brandt, Amber Brandt and Mike Brandt; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Jackson, and a brother, Ed Brandt.
