Oliver H. Akerlund,66, a long time Havre businessman over 45 years, died early Monday at a Havre hospital after an illness of several months.

Funeral services are scheduled Thursday at 2 p.m.. at the Sixth Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Jack Rampelberg officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mr. Akerlund was born in Harb community near Malta, Oct. 15,1925, to Emil and Florence Anderson Akerlund. He attended schools in Harb community and Malta, graduating from high school there in 1943.

He came to Havre in 1947. He and the late John Beck opened the Beck and Akerlund Auto Repair Shop in North Havre. They received the Nash franchise in 1953. In 1959 the business was moved to West First Street and in 1970 the Jeep franchise was acquired. The business moved to the current location on Highway 2 West in 1977, In 1980 the Renault franchise was added and in 1987, the dealership became Jeep/Eagle as a result of Chrysler Corporation acquisitions of American Motors.

He married the former Lyla Green in Havre at the Christian Church, June 6,1959, He was a member of the Christian Church, Elks, Eagles, and Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed traveling and spending time in the mountains.

He is survived by his wife of Havre, one sister, Lillian Beck of Havre, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be sent to the Sixth Avenue Christian Church or a person's choice.
