Funeral services for W. B. "Wes" Berry, 84, 303 South Ash, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Benjamin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Haskins officiating. Interment will be at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home.

He died December 2 at Nowata General Hospital.

He was born July 9, 1897 at Nowata Indian Territory to Robert Berry and Lavina (Blevins) Berry.

He was a lifetime resident of the area.

Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his first wife, Delia May Reich, who died on January 12, 1939. He later married Easie Stanfill on January 29, 1946 in Howard, Kansas.

He was a retired Service Pipe Line Company employee and a member of the Nowata First Baptist Church and Nowata Sunset Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include: his wife Easie of the home; one son, W. B. Berry, Jr. of Lees Summit, Mo; one step-son, Eugene Stanfill of Ponca City, Okla.; three daughters, Betty Pickett of Madill, Okla., Doris Stewart of Augusta, Kans., Ida Belle Hayworth of Columbia, Mo; one step-daughter, Joyce Sue Rose of Atlanta, Ga.; one nephew, Denzil Berry of Nowata; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Wesley Bryan "Wes" Berry was the son of Robert E. Lee Berry and Lavona Francis Blevins. His father moved to Oklahoma from Illinois and settled on the Cherokee land in Indian Territory. His mother was a member of the Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma and she, Wes, his brother Lee, and their sister Maude are listed on the Dawes Rolls. Wes's parents separated when he was young and he and his brother lived with their father, and his sister with their mother. Lavona remarried, but committed suicide soon after the death of her daughter.

Wes was first married to Delia Reich in Nowata, Oklahoma in 1917. They had four children: Doris, Betty Jean, Ida Belle, and Wesley Jr. Delia died in 1939. Wes was remarried briefly to Grace Moser in 1942. He married Easie Stroud Stanfill in Howard, Kansas in 1946. They lived in Nowata for the remainder of their lives. He died in 1981 at age 84 and is buried at Nowata Memorial Cemetery next to his first wife.
