Amos was the third of five children of Samuel Brooks Jr. and Lament "Minta" Strong. He was born November 24, 1807, at Redfield. Amos never married. In the months before his death, he lived with the family of his younger brother, Sheldon, whose farm was at Redfield. Amos died there at the age of 43, on November 1, 1850.
