Thomas George Abels, died at age 84, in Peoria, Illinois at the Methodist Hospital on May 17, 1972. He had been ill with renal disease since 1971. He was admitted to the hospital with hyperkalemia, severe electrolyte imbalance, multiple small infarcts, and non-functioning right kidney and impairment of circulation to right arm and leg. He died at 4:50 pm. He was born September 5, 1887 to William Edward Abels and Agnes Virginia McConnell. He had six siblings: Mollie Green (1865-1944), Olivia Rachel Abels (1873-1952), Emmett Lee Abels (1875-1953), Matilda Elizabeth Abels (1878-1940), William James Abels (1882-1949), and Florida Emma Abels (1885-1967).
He married Rada Mae Leeson (1897-1975 )on April 10, 1919 In Savannah, Andrew County Missouri. To this union they had six children: Virginia May Abels Mitchell Miller Keling (1920-1973), Ida Naomi Ables (1921-2001), Florida Lee Abels (1922-2006), Mary Edith Abels (1924-2010), Rachel Elizabeth Abels (1927-1999), William T. Abels (1929-).
He spent most of his life in Misssouri and was a retired farmer. But, he died in Peoria, Illinois as he was staying with his daughter in his old age.
He is buried next to his wife at the Savannah Cemetery, in Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri. He was a devoted father and grandfather.
