Jesse and Jennet Isabelle Lyle, were married in 1835, Jesse was aged 25. At age 40, in 1850, they moved to Subdivision 23, in Choctaw, Mississippi, and moved again in 1868, to Township 21, still in Choctaw, Mississippi. Jesse Sloan Hillhouse passed away eight years later, in 1868, at the age of 58.
He was the proud owner of a syrup mill, and approx. 3,000 acres of land with a net worth of $1,965, which at the time was considered quite wealthy.
Jennet and Jesse Sloan are the parents of John Bunyan Hillhouse 1836-1999, Francis Marion Hillhouse 1838-1900, Patrick Henry Hillhouse 1839-1905, Hugh H Hillhouse 1840-1870, Martha Hillhouse 1842-?, George Franklin Hillhouse 1844-1900, David Lorenzo Hillhouse 1845-1922, Elizabeth Hillhouse 1847-1881, James Monroe Hillhouse 1850-1917, Mary Hillhouse 1852-1919, Jesse Newton Hillhouse 1854-?, and Sarah Viola Hillhouse 1856-1937.
***It is unknown to me at this time who placed the marker, or exactly when. Jesse S. Hillhouse last Will and Testament was signed by Jesse on 12 Oct 1869, which argues against the 1868 death date on his headstone and would appear to be incorrect. Also the will was probated 25 Dec 1869 leaving all his worldly possessions to his wife, Jennette I. Hillhouse, so it is estimated that he died between Oct and Dec. 1869.
