Archie Lee Bishop, 902 Cape Road in Jackson, was pronounced dead on arrival at a Perryville hospital Thursday afternoon. He had been working in timber and apparently suffered a heart attack. He was 67 years old.

Mr. Bishop was born July 28, 1902, in Bollinger County. He was engaged in construction work and farming and for the past three years was employed by the Jackson Dressed Meat Plant, retiring in 1969. He moved to Jackson in 1958 from Fruitland, and resided most of his lifetime in the Neelys Landing community.

Mr. Bishop was ordained as a Baptist deacon in 1937 and had been an active deacon at the New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas, for 33 years. He also served as church tresasurer for 10 years and was custodian of the church cemetery and also was a member of the building committee when the New Bethel Church was erected.

He was a member of the executive board of the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association and a member of the Excelsior Lodge No. 441 of Jackson.

On Sept. 7, 1926, he was married to Miss Margaret Bullard at Benton. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, the Reb. Jack Bishop, Chaffee, the Reb. Delbert Bishop, Dexter, and Lyle Bishop, Jackson, Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. Don McCullough and Mrs. Richard Sides, both of Jackson; four sisters, Mrs. Andrew McClard, Jackson Route 4, Mrs. Minnie Walker, Grafton, Ill., and Mrs. Esther Bubach and Mrs. Ann Cotner, both of St. Louis, and 12 grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the New Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Earl Tharp, pastor of Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. Burial is to be in the church cemetery.

The body is at the McCombs Funeral Home here where Masonic services will be held Saturday night at 7. Sunday afternoon at 1, the body will be removed to the church for services.
