|Death: ||Apr. 8, 1889|
Elvina Kirkland married Jacob Nevil(s), Jr. on 4 Feb 1836 (Chatham County Marriages, 1806-1851, p 151; Certificate # 1803. "NEVIL, Jacob, m. Miss Elvira KIRKLAND; 4 Feb 1836/0". From the book "Marriages of Chatham County, Georgia, Volume I, 1748-1852", p 168; 1993; Compiled by the Genealogical Com, Ga Hist Soc). The marriage certificate issued 4 February 1836 but never recorded as returned. Nevil family tradition however accepts that as their marriage date.
According to the 1880 US Census, Elvina and her husband Jacob lived in District 17, Liberty County, Georgia, with their son Cuyler Nevils, his wife Ann and their five children: Elvina, THomas, Sarah E, Jacob and William D. Her name was recorded as Elvina Nevils; and her age was recorded as 65. (Date of record: 1 Jun 1880; Enumeration date: 23 Jun 1880. Year: 1880; Census Place: District 17, Liberty, Georgia; Roll: 155; Family History Film: 1254155; Page: 96B; Enumeration District: 069; Image: 0546. From the Ancestry.com website, 11 May 2012.) Jacob died shortly after the census enumeration of 1880. It is likely, though unconfirmed, that both Elvina and Jacob died in Liberty County.

According to the book "Bulloch County Cemeteries Vol B", p 6; transcription done March - July 1972, by Lawrence M Edwards (bound typescript in Statesboro Regional Library, Statesboro, GA; copied 15 Apr 2011 by Tim Jones), the now partially buried tombstone reads:
died April 8, 1889
Aged 79 years"
[Based on her reported age in the census records, this probably should be 'aged 74 years'.]
