William Peter Ahlstrom, 73, died Monday at Chicago Ill., from natural causes. He was the father of City Librarian Peter W. Ahlstrom.

He was born Aug. 17, 1900, at Tropic, Utah, the son of James Peter and Matilda Jolley Ahlstrom. The family moved to Basalt in 1906 and to Idaho Falls in 1921. He attended schools at Shelley.

He worked for a railroad in northern California; was in the oil fields in Texas, moving to Chicago in the 1930's where he worked in a garage and for many years had been a cab driver for the Yellow Cab Company in Chicago.

He married Ann Christensen in Chicago in 1934.

Survivors are: his son, Peter W. Ahlstrom of Idaho Falls; four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. R. W. (Lila) Preece, Mrs. Edward C. (Vesta) Perry, Mrs. Jess (Beth) Hayes, Mrs. Monte (Wanda) Thornton, Paul W. Ahlstrom, and Farrell B. Ahlstrom all of Idaho Falls.
