Clyde was returning home to Memphis from his sister Maudie's house in Akron OH, and either fell or was pushed from the train he was traveling on.
He was an executive for the Illinois Central RR in Memphis at a time the unions were organizing. On his way to Ohio, he changed trains and his schedule as he felt he was being followed, and communicated such to his sister in Akron.
For his return trip, he changed tickets at the last moment to try and evade anyone who might be following him. The day he left, he was found dead alongside the tracks outside of Chicago near Harvey Hill.
From the "official investigation", the investigators found no evidence of such, however his wife Malteda did hire private investigators after the official one was done. They felt there was some merit to the claim of murder, but were not able to gather enough evidence to have anyone charged.
