Henry was born to Ernst Ludwig Nagel b. November 21, 1807 in Minden, Prussia; d. December 31, 1866 in Quincy, IL and Maria Dorthea Koenig b. June 21, 1804 in New Salkzwerth, Prussia; d. August 30, 1878 in Quincy, IL.
Henry's real name was Johann Heinrich Nagel, but he Americanized his name to Henry Nagle. He came to this country when he was 19 years old, settling in Louisiana. In 1873, he came to Kansas City with his wife entering into the service of the old Kansas City, Fort Scott, and Memphis Railway Company in the capacity of coach constructor. He was with this company 30 years, not leaving it when it was absorbed by the present Frisco Co.
