Laclede Blade: March 1, 1912
Mrs. Mary A. Anderson, for more than forty years a resident of this community and well remembered by our older citizens, died at the home of her son, Rev. J. W. Anderson, at Keokuk, Iowa, Friday, Feb 23, 1912, aged 81 years, 6 months, and 18 days.
Mary Ann David was born in Belmont County, Ohio, Aug 5, 1830, and was married to Benjamin Anderson, Dec 18, 1849. She was the mother of three children, two of whom died in infancy. From early life she had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a timid, retiring disposition and never demonstrative in any way, but when health permitted was faithful in her attendance upon and use of the means of grace. Her home was always that of the itinerant preacher, who ever received a cordial welcome. Hers was an unselfish life, ever more thoughtful of others than of her efforts to be of use to those about her.
While living to a ripe old age, for many years, she had been a sufferer from a complication of diseases that baffled medical skill, and yet never a word of complaint escaped her lips and those about her knew nothing of it except as inquiry might reveal it. Her final illness was of short duration, lasting less than a week, and the end came Friday at 1:56 p.m.
Short services were held at Koekuk, directed by Dr. J. M. Brown, assisted by Dr. Kendrick of the Iowa conference, Dr. Foster of the United Presbyterian Church and Dr. Lily, pastor of the Christian Church The body was brought to Laclede and services were held at the M.E. Church, Sunday morning, conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. J. Enyeart, assisted by Rev. Calvin Allen, and interment was made in the Laclede Cemetery, beside her Husband, who died about fourteen years ago.
