Joyce Irene barker passed away Monday, February 25, 20008 at the Harper Hospital at the age of 81, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was the daughter of Hughie and Beulah Roberts.
She was born May 9, 1926 in Moline, Kansas. The family moved to Attica in 1939 and in 1942 they settled in Harper where Joyce attended high school.
In 1943 she went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad as a telegraph operator, delivering orders to soldiers during World War II.
In 1945, she married her childhood sweetheart, Floyd Barker and became a fulltime homemaker for their four children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Pulliam and one brother, Jim Roberts.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Barker of Harper; four children: Lonnie Barker and wife, Shirley of Goshen, Indiana, Hugh Barker and wife, Tammy of Harper, Jeannine Montague of Wichita, KS and Jeannette Misak and husband, Gary, of Harper; nine grandchildren: Mitchell and Nathan Barker, Nancy Campbell, Heath Barker, Chris Moon, Jenna and Samantha Montague, John Patterson and Brett Misak; 18 great grandchildren; and one brother: Bill Roberts of Wichita, KS.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
