Death: Nov. 21, 1969
Telluride

Edgar had temporarily taken employment at the mine in Telluride and was killed there but his avocation in life was timberman. He had his own portable sawmill and was his own sawyer. He logged, skidded, cut timber trimmed and whatever to do the job. Darlene and I skidded logs with horses that our Edgar had trained for work in the woods. We did that until we graduated from high school (every summer). The mill was set up in the woods where the timber job was and that's where we all lived in the summer. Then back to town in the fall for school. His bookkeeper was his wife, Thelma. Edgar was also an excellent horseman. He broke horses, shod horses, and helped other people with any cowboy work they needed to have done. He helped to drive the first long horns into the ranches above Gardner when the Texans came into the ranches over there. He joined the Navy after the incident at Pearl Harbor and was in until the war came to an end. He was stationed on the USS MARYLAND. While he was on the battle ship it hit a mine and was also hit by a Kamakazi. While the ship was in dock for repairs in Seattle Thelma went up there to spend time with him taking Ruby (who was born after he was in the service ) and Stubby. They were up there almost 3 months. Margaret Kiesler and her daughter spent that time with the rest of us kids in Gardner at Aunt Naomi's house in Gardner. When he was discharged after the war was ended, they all moved back to the South Bradford area and he began timber work again.
