From The Wolbach (Nebraska) Messenger April 12, 1928:
Charles Ahl dies at Omaha Hospital--
Charles Ahl, well known in Wolbach, died about four weeks ago at Emanuel hospital in Omaha, where he has been staying for the past two years or so. His death was not reported to friends here until just recently. There is regret expressed that his death was not known earlier, as no doubt, there are local people who would have made it possible to have his body returned to Wolbach and buried here where Mr. Ahl spent so many years of his life.
For many years Mr. Ahl was the earliest settler of this vicinity still living. The Messenger has not been able to get definite figures, but we are told that Mr. Ahl came to Greeley county about 45 years ago and has made his home here ever since, until about two years ago when his failing health made it necessary to go to the hospital. He homesteaded on the present Milo McIntyre farm a short distance north of Wolbach. Mr. Ahl was a school teacher part of the time in the early days. He was always a great reader, and became very well informed on many subjects.
When the present editor first came to Wolbach, Charley Ahl was the first subscriber to come in and renew his subscription, remarking at the time that he had been the first to renew when Mr. Barnard took charge of the paper two years previous. Mr. Ahl had no relatives in this vicinity. He was never married. It is said that he has a younger sister living in Kansas.
