Anson Albert Amsbry was the son of Truman Amsbry and his wife Polly Lathrop.
He enlisted in the Army in 1848 and served as a hospital steward in Louisiana and Maryland.
He had a son Eugene born in 1847 to Lorinda Barney, a physician's daughter from Allegany County NY.
After Anson's discharge in 1853 he went with Lorinda and their son to PA where a daughter Ida was born around 1855.
In the 1860 Federal Census for Tioga County PA Anson was listed as a lawyer.
His daughter Ida died in 1862, aged not quite seven years old.
Anson then enlisted again with the rank of Capt. in the Army and served during the Civil War in the 171st PA Infantry from 1862-1863.
Anson and Lorinda were married in 1863.
Their son Anson Eugene, served as well during the war, but died in 1865 from wounds received on the battlefield.
Anson A. Amsbry worked as a farmer and cigar manufacturer later in life.
In 1883 at the age of 60 he began divorce proceeding against his wife Lorinda, but they were still married at the time of his death in 1885.
