Mrs. Martha Turpin Bowles:

She was a fine lady, Virginian, and my mothers Grandmother.

Her husband, Robert Nathan Bowles served in the CSA Armed Forces with honor.

Married Martha Turpin 12/66 Amherst Co On 1902 pension list. Living Sandidges, Amherst Co age 65 4/04 Died 2/2/25 Sandidges of apoplexy.

A Mason, Master of the Lodge.in 1967 for 60 years of continuous active membership the Masonic Lodge, Mt. Pleasant No. 84 gave him a Masonic Emblem. At that time he was the Eldest Mason in the USA.

Born in Amherst, Virginia, USA on 7 Feb 1871 to Robert Nathaniel Bowles and Martha Potter Turpin. George Harvey married Martha Annie Jennings and had a child. He passed away on 13 Jan 1973

Born on 28 Jun 1902 to George Harvey Bowles and Martha Annie Jennings. Struby Jennings married and had 2 children. He passed away on 6 May 1965.

AMHERST Carriebelle B. Watts, 86, died at Westminster Canterbury Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999. She was the wife of the late Willard C. Watts. Born in Amherst County, Sept. 28, 1912, she was the daughter of George H. Bowles and Martha Ann Jennings Bowles. She was a former school teacher and retired from the Henrico County Social Services Department. She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. She was a former member of the Northside Baptist Church in Richmond, a member of the Eastern Star and the Pleasant Vista Garden Club. Funeral arrangements are being made by Piney River Funeral Home, 804-277-5244. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 1999 at Central Baptist Church by the Rev. Eugene Beverly with burial at Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery. The family will be at Piney River Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. today and other times at the home of her niece, Jean Thompson, 457 Thrashers Creek Road located in the Mount Pleasant area of Amherst County. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Baptist Church, General Delivery, Lowesville, Va. 22967-9999 or your favorite charity.

John C. Turpin: 1842-1925 John Cheatwood, born April 15, 1842 ( He is buried at Jonesboro Baptist) and lived across the way from where my Aunt, Eleanor Grey HARVEY Massie lives. He built his house abt. 1879 and my mother, Mary Elizabeth HARVEY De Mallie met many of his children. She stopped by to see and got the autograph from Lottie Cheatwood Turpin Brent Dameron when she was 101 years old and she showed her the US silver dollar -1879 & the citation from the President of U.S., she also attended her funeral at Jonesboro Baptist in Roseland, Virginia in AUG. 1981. He was in Civil War.

Peter Flood Turpin: 1844-Unknown, enlisted in CSA 1862, Company F, 28 Virginia Infantry, Hunton's Brigade, Pickett's Division. He married in 1869, Ellen Jones.

George:, taken prisoner during the Civil War, and died in the Yankeee, Delaware Prison.
