Big Four Lineman Terribly Injured
Luther Boyd Falls 40 feet from pole and probably will die of his many wounds

Luther Boyd aged 32 a lineman employed by the Big Four railroad was fatally injured shortly after 8 o'clock this morning when he accidentally fell from a telegraph pole at the Smith street crossing. He was working at the west side of the track and fell about forty feet to the curbing of the sidewalk. William Ward, the Big four car inspector was the first to reach the side of the injured man and found him unconscious and almost strangled from the torrent of the blood that was running down his throat. Boyd was soldering wires at the top of the pole when his climbers slipped in the wet wood and he was precipitated to the gutter of the street below. His tools were later found at the top of the pole and his belt was not unfastened. He was rushed to St. Elizabeth hospital in the Evans ambulance and Dr. George F. Beasley made and examination. He found that Boyd has sustained a compound facture of the right hip, a facture of the left arm at the wrist and elbow. Nearly all of his teeth were knocked from his mouth, a big hole was cut in his chin, his nose was torn loose and his upper lip was pierced. Dr. Beasley also fears that the lineman is injured internally. Mr. Boyd regained consciousness a few hours after being taken to the hospital and is in great pain. When he fell he alighted on his face on the sharp corner of the stone curing of the gutter. Boyd has been employed by the Big Four for six years and has a wife and one little child living at Lebanon. He has many friends in this city.
