Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Karen Loraine Alleman, age 57, the former Karen Loraine Melvin, who passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in Colorado Springs, CO.
The Deacon Ken Arnaud, of St. Peter Catholic Church will officiate at the services.
Karen's life began in Victoria, TX; she lived there for 17 years and moved to Carencro, LA. She graduated from Carencro High School and began working at Evangeline Down's Racetrack, along with her husband at the time, Joe Alleman who was a jockey there. She would pony horses to the paddock. Karen had a great love for all animals but her horses were the most important. She made a change in life and became a Hot Shot Driver, where she traveled all over the United States and made trips to Canada. She and her traveling companion "Ginger" her dog were on a run at the time of her death in Colorado Springs, CO. Karen made different friends in the states she traveled and they became her family also. She had a home in Clovis, New Mexico where she planned to retire. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include one son, Jon Alleman of Carencro; one brother, Maurice Melvin and his wife, Shirley, of Victoria, TX; her former husband, Joe Alleman of Carencro; and her former father and mother-in-law, Clovis Alleman and wife Bernice "Bune" of Carencro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Wilton Melvin and mother the former Myrtle Leona Bragg.
Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro was in charge of arrangements.
