John D. Arn passed away at home at the age of 87 on April 21, 2012. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and served in the U.S. Navy (Ensign) during World War II. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Alicia Cargill, he worked for General Electric and Honeywell and lived in New York, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Minnesota and spent five years in São Paulo, Brazil. He was a great dad (known as "Dede"), avid fisherman, photographer, and a Boy Scout volunteer. After he retired in 1987, he devoted his time to philately- and became an accomplished collector. He exhibited around the country and internationally, and won numerous awards- including several "Golds." He started The Corgi Times , a publication of the Elizabethan II Study Group under the auspices of BNAPS-the Society for Canadian Philately. He also was the founder of the Moses Lake Inland Northwest Philatelic Day-and ran it for 19 years. He was awarded the prestigious Order of the Beaver (the Honorary Fellowship of the British North America Philatelic Society "BNAPS"). During his life, he helped under-privileged kids go to scout camp, mentored young men in business, supported environmental causes, and loved all three of his "Arn girls."
In remembrance, a Veteran Honor Service will be held at 2:15 pm on Friday, May 4, 2012. Committal Service Shelter, Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 West Espanola Road, Medical Lake, WA 99022. ALL ATTENDEES ARE ASKED TO ARRIVE BY 2:00 PM, as the service will begin promptly. Following the service, family and friends are invited to join us for remembrances, stories and refreshments at Prospector's, N. 12611 Highway 395 in Spokane, WA.
