Alma Enterprise, April 3, 1942, page 1:
One of the finest girls of the county left us Saturday when Miss Elizabeth Adams, age 44, died in a Topeka hospital following a short illness.
She was born July 20, 1897, in Maple Hill, and had lived there her entire life. She was a graduate of the K.S.C. and a member of the Phi Beta Phi sorority. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary, the Congregational Church, and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Franklin Adams, one sister, Miss Emily Adams: four brothers, Franklin A. of Salina, Arthur, Howard and Warner Adams, all of Maple Hill.
Her funeral was held Monday at 2:30 from the Congregational Church and was largely attended.
Elizabeth was a most loveable young woman, and her untimely death brings much sorrow to her family and to her scores of friends.
(also) Maple Hill news – Our community was shocked and deeply grieved Saturday when news came of the death of Miss Elizabeth Adams in the hospital in Topeka that morning after a short illness. To know Elizabeth was to love her. The large crowd and the many flowers at her funeral which was held Monday at her home, was evidence of the love and respect she held in the hearts of the people. The service was in charge of Rev. Walter Randle. Mrs. Dick Winkler sang a solo with Mrs. Dave Stewart at the piano. The pallbearers were Glen Crayton, Jack Herron, Ed Chapman, and John Carlson of Topeka, David Stewart and Horace Adams, Jr. Burial was in the cemetery here. She will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends.
