Born Nov. 5, 1922, near Brisco in Pine Township, Warren County, he was the son of Lloyd and Merle Marie Creamer Cassel. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1940 and attended the University of Kentucky from 1947-1948, transferring to Indiana University in 1949 graduating from Indiana University in 1950, he received his masters degree from Purdue University.

His marriage was to Sharon Fellure, and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Cassel was a veteran of World War II.Wayne taught school at Lake Village, Otterbein and Boswell, Indiana.

He was a member of the Attica Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 259, and was a Warren County historian.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Hines (husband: Bob) of Judyville, Lori Gamble (husband: Roger) of Indianapolis; three sons, Eric Cassel of Lafayette, Alex Cassel (wife: Julie) of Fort Meyers, FL., and Adam Cassel of Peoria,IL.; and a sister, Barbara Crane of West Lebanon.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; Josh & Seth Hines, Cara Cassel, Tabatha, Michael, Brooke & Lindsey Wirtz, Chase Gamble, Abagail Cassel and 7 great-grandchildren; Isaac & Madeline Hines, Page & Cole Wilkenson, Kai Noble, Isaac, Gavin & Emma Wirtz. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teri Cassel, and a brother, Howard Cassel.
