When he married Grace Ellsworth in 1919, they moved into a farmhouse next to his parents and had two children, Barbara Jane in 1922 and Charles in 1925. In about 1960, Ray stopped farming and sold the farm. He and grandma moved into a small house in Catlin near the high school. He died in a hospital in Indianapolis in 1969 at the age of 71 and was buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin.
