Armond's family moved around a lot while he was growing up on account of his father's railroad job. Roy enlisted in the Navy when he was eligible, was sent to China and served during World War I. Armond was also stationed in Russia and other far off places. He had a list of all the ports he'd been to, tattooed on his upper arm.
Being a true patriot, Armond re-enlisted after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He served on a sub chaser in the Pacific...was wounded and hospitalized in San Diego and Treasure Island (San Francisco). He was discharged before end of WWII.
Upon his last discharge from military service, Armond returned to his job that was held for him at a printing company in downtown Whittier, California.
