Columbus, GA- Lloyd Thomas Cantrell, 86, of Columbus died Monday, April 16, 2012 at Vista Care of Franciscan Woods.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church, 5122 Pierce Chapel Road, Midland, GA with Rev. Howard White and Rev. Lynn Meadows White officiating. Interment will be held in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
Mr. Cantrell was born March 5, 1926 in Columbus, GA son of the late John Thomas Cantrell and Bessie Kerr Cantrell. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Campaign. He retired after 28 years as a Captain for the Muscogee County Sheriff's Department. After his retirement he served as a bailiff for Judge Cohn and worked in Judge Jordan's office with the Columbus Consolidation Government. He was a member of Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Midland Masonic Lodge and the FOP.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Louise McCrone.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Leila Skipper Cantrell of Columbus, GA; four sons, George Cantrell (Kim Carr) of Columbus, GA, Kevin Cantrell (Tammy) of Cataula, GA, Brian Cantrell (Lynn) of Columbus, GA and Chris Cantrell of Titusville, FL; four grandchildren, Ryan Cantrell, Lauren Cantrell, Allison Estevez (Sean) and Tristan Porter; two nieces, Christie of Panama City, FL and Janice of Dothan, AL and two dear sister-in-laws, Barbara Eddings (Gerald) of Titusville, FL and Byrdie Skipper of Columbus, GA.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church, 5122 Pierce Chapel Road, Midland, GA 31820.
