CLEARFIELD - Shirley Van Ballegooie Allred, 65, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Monday, December 17, 2001 peacefully in her sleep.
She was born August 9, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Ephraim and Evalyn (Steffensen) Van Ballegooie. She was raised and educated in Salt Lake and Obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate from Weber State College in 1975.
On March 19, 1954, she married David Allred. They were later divorced but remained good friends. She served many positions with the local schools as a PTA member, room teacher, and Girl Scout leader and the LDS Church, including Work Director. Her life was devoted to her family and home. She was a loving mother and friend for so many; she leaves behind a very big hole in many lives but a bright legacy through her family. She loved doing many different crafts, her ceramics and cross-stitch were very beautiful and crocheted afghans and quilts will warm family members for many years to come. She was very talented in many areas including cooking, sewing, singing and of course the crafts. She was a friend to many, especially her children and grandchildren who were her greatest joy. After 26 years in nursing at St. Benedict's, McKay-Dee, Davis North, Brigham and LDS Hospitals, she retired this past August from Davis Mental Health.
Thank you for being such a good mother to us,
For being so easy to talk to,
For giving so much of yourself and of your time.
Thank you all the craziness,
Through all the ups and downs
Our lives seemed to bring.
Thank you for helping to keep things in perspective,
For being there with us when we needed you.
Thank you for being so sensitive and caring,
So wise and understanding --
For being the Very Best Mom and Friend
Anyone could ever hope to have.
She leaves behind her friend David; her children Shirlene Allred of Hooper; Michael (Peggy) Allred of Layton, Christina Nalder of Roy; Tina (Chuck) Edwards of Hooper; Jeff Allred of Roy; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon (Mary Ann) of Riverton and sister, Norma Schofield of Salt Lake.
