AMERICUS — Mrs. Joyce Abell, age 65, of Americus died Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2006 at her residence. A native of Lee County, Mrs. Abell was born March 11, 1940, a daughter of the late Wallace Scott and Mary Alice Varnum Scott. She was retired from Wachovia Bank, working in the loan department as an administrative assistant.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 16, 2005, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Whitmire, Dr. Lamon Moates and Rev. Keith Parks officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Pope, Kelso Gooden, Jim Russell, Bobby Taylor, Shaw Fletcher, Wally Summers, Broadus Willoughby, Joe Turner, Jack Busby and Thomas B. Daniel. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are members of The Charlie Gibbs Sunday School Class and members of The Sanctuary Choir of First Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Wednesday, February 15th at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Sound System Fund, 221 S. Lee Street, Americus, Georgia 31709 or to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709.

Survivors include her husband of forty-six years, Leonard Abell of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hamer Abell and Ellen of Leslie and Gary Abell and Teresa of Columbus; one brother and sister-in-law, Howard Scott and Virginia of Ft. Gaines; one sister and brother-in-law, Lula Bush and Frank of Americus; six grandchildren, Haley, Hunter and Ansleigh Abell and Emily, Caleb and Jacob Abell.
