ATKINS, George Douglas – George Douglas Atkins, age 76 years, 5 months and 6 days, died at his home north of Gentry Saturday, September 1 after an illness of more than 6 months.
Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon, Rev. A.N. Stanfield, pastor of the Gentry Baptist Church, officiating and burial ceremony was in the Flint Creek cemetery under the direction of the Carpenter Undertaking Company.
The Deceased was united in marriage to Elizabeth Farbes Oct. 11, 1877. To this union were born 11 children, 9 of whom, together with the companion, are left to mourn his departure.
Those left are: N.B. Atkins, Pana, Ill.; Mrs. John Carroll, Lewis, Kan.; Mrs. Ralph Corzine, Garfield, Kan.; Mrs. Oscar Maxey, Hutchinson, Kan.; George W. Atkins, Live Oak, Calif.; Mrs. Loyd Whiteside, Flatwoods, Mo.; Mrs. Ralph Couch, Sam Atkins and Willis Atkins of Gentry.
Deceased has been a resident of this section for many years and friends extend sympathy to the family.
