Taken from newspaper clipping in family scrapbook :
At about midnight Thursday, Dec. 19, 1901, Lula Delavan the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Delavan, passed from this life into the great beyond. The deceased was eighteen years of age and had been a devoted member of the Pleasant Hill Christian church for more than three years. Her character was spotless and her life pure. She was thoroughly prepared to meet God and talked of death smilingly. The great esteem in which she was held was shown by the large concourse of friends and relatives who attended her funeral which was conducted by Elder E.M. Johnson.
The deceased leaves an aged father and mother, one sister and one brother to mourn her departure. The remains were interred in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Her life was like a bright star which rose in its glory, was seen a short time and was gone but leaving the world better and brighter.
