Edward C. Delavan served in the Civil War, enlisting at Jackson County,Missouri. His regiment was a part of General Shelby's brigade also known as the "Iron Brigade". He was a private of Company A, 12th Regiment, Missouri Cavalry, known at various times as 2nd Regiment, Jean's Regiment, and Shank's Regiment, in the Confederate States Army. Union prisoner of war records show that Edward C. Delavan was wounded (fracture of temporal bone by a musket ball) and captured Apr 26,1863 at Cape Girardeau County,Missouri and imprisoned at Myrtle Street Prison in St. Louis,Missouri. He was paroled for exchange Jul 23,1863, and was discharged Jun 1,1865 at Corsicana,Texas.
