Birthdate could be as early as 1853, since her age at death on Jan 17, 1918 was noted as "65." Her parents' given names were Minnie and Samuel (more likely Mintze & Schmuel ).
She arrived at Ellis Island as Tzirel Wolik, age 49, on August 8, 1905, aboard SS Noordam from Rotterdam with her home village listed as "Grimewe," Russia--actually a transcribed mispronunciation of Ochremaver (aka Okhrimovo, aka Sarny near Uman, now in Ukraine). Tzirel was also inaccurately listed in one document as "Cirel Walink," while her son, Mordche, 11, was also misidentified with the surname Golisarski, because Tzirel's married daughter, Blume Golisarski, 24, had also arrived with her to join her husband Yankel. (And Blume was with her 6-month-old son, Leib, who would die at age 27. Also, Golisarski surname would later be changed to Goldberg sometime before 1919.)
Also with Tzirel was daughter, Mintze, 26, who was briefly held for "special inquiry" at Ellis Island, and was noted to have "Dr. Cert. Senility." This was most likely due to the fact that Mintze was deaf, and perhaps, also mute. She was admitted to the U.S., but at least three others on same manifest were refused immigration and deported.
Tzirel's husband Uscher/Asher Wolik/Wallack had arrived in Philadelphia in 1900, while son Leib/Lou and daughter Chari/Clara followed in 1903, and joined their father at 1506 S. 7th St. in South Philly.
Tzirel's maiden name, Dvorak, was provided by granddaughter Lucille Wallace Lazarus in the 1970s, but no confirmation of this surname has yet been found. However, on son Max's 1915 marriage certificate her maiden name is recorded as "Kaplan." But on the same document, Kaplan was also the maiden name noted of his wife Ceil's mother, Tillie Kaplan Toor, and in other respects the certificate seems to be just a sloppy inaccuracy.
In 1910 Census was listed as "Zirel Wolleck," but was buried in 1918 as "Annie Sillie Wollock," even after her children had adopted surname Wallace. Sadly, like her husband Uscher, Tzirel's death certificate is inconsistent & inaccurate. For some reason it Americanizes her name to the point that it is identical to that of her daughter-in-law: "Celia Wallace."
