She left a sister Hilma Sofia and brothers Carl Johan, Carl Gustav and Carl Axel in Sweden and sailed to the US on July 2, 1888 arriving at Ellis Island. She married Joel Parker Van Riper. They had 9 children. Hulda died during the flu epidemic leaving Joey and 8 surviving children.
