Parry was born in Kansas City, Mo., but felt most at home in Hawaii where his family moved during his high school years. He developed his lifelong enjoyment of learning while attending Punahou School in Honolulu.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon where he joined Chi Psi fraternity. His Master of Business Administration (MBA) was awarded by Portland State University where he later served as a part-time instructor.

Parry had a 35-year career as a CPA specializing in governments and not-for-profit organizations. He served in leadership roles with the Oregon Society of CPAs becoming an expert in accounting for non-profits conducting classes throughout the U.S.

As an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Parry served as an elder and finance chair, he was a strong supporter of the full inclusion in the church of gay, lesbian and transgender people. Parry was an avid supporter of youth sports coaching his children's sports teams and refereeing soccer for over 16 years.

Parry is survived by Elaine, his college sweetheart and wife of 40 years; and by his children, Valerie Ankersen of Lake Oswego and Scott Ankersen of Eugene. On Aug. 13, 2010, Parry lost his battle with cancer.

His life will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1624 N.E. Hancock St.
