Bell was ordained to the curacy of Aughrim and appointed deputation secretary for the Irish Society. In 1885 he elected Canon of St. Patrick's and in 1887 assistant secretary of the Association for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge. He was elected Bishop of Meath.
Beloved by his parish and his wife, Harriette he was the last of five sons of the Bell Family.
