Born March 26, 1915, to Richmond Bourne Reeves and Nancy Caroline Hall Reeves, "Miss Jessie," as she was known to friends and family, was the eighth of the nine Reeves children. She was a member of the Columbia Baptist Church, and still loved and supported the historic church of her youth, Shiloh Christian Church, in the Ozark community of Adair County.
Miss Jessie is survived by her three living children, Dr. Phillip Reeves Aaron of Columbia, Jane Caroline Aaron, Lexington, KY; and Susan Arthold Remek of Chicago. Her son, Dr. William Stephen Aaron of New Albany, IN, preceded her in death. She had five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A 1938 graduate of the Kentucky Baptist School of Nursing, Jessie was a dedicated nurse who assisted her husband in his practice in the coal mines of West Virginia during World War II. She and her husband raised their family for many years in Elizabethtown, KY, before they returned to Columbia in 1959. Jessie was an active President (and national officer) of the Elizabethtown Woman's Club, the Woman's Club of Columbia, Adair County Homemakers, and spearheaded saving the Trabue-Russell house as a historic landmark in Columbia.
She authored a chapter in a book about Ephraim McDowell, published by the Kentucky Medical Associates' Ladies' Auxiliary. She donated the historic Reeves family home to the Reeves Family Association, providing her large family of relatives a center for activities. She was an avid gardener, and practiced organic gardening before it became popular. She dearly loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville St., Columbia, KY, is in charge of arrangements.
