Daughter of Christian Hiles (1794–1876) and Judith Sullivan (1795–1856).
Mrs. Catherine Anderson, the oldest lady in Monroe City (MO) and the next oldest resident here in point of age, died at the home of her son, J. B. Anderson, Sunday evening, April 7 (1918).
The deceased was a native of Kentucky, being born in Dover, Bracken County, December 6, 1825, her maiden name being Catherine Hiles. With her husband, H. K. Anderson, who died about 22 years ago, she came to Monroe City in 1857 and had residence here continuously since with the exception of six years spent in Tennessee. She had made her home in Monroe City for fifty-five years.
She was the mother of eleven children, all but four of whom have preceeded her in death. Those living are: J. B. and C. B. Anderson, of this city; Mrs. A. B. Coombs, of Omaha, Nebr. and Mrs. Ella Lighter, of Memphis, Tenn.
Mrs. Anderson saw Monroe City grow from a bare prairie to its present state of progress and prosperity. She was a member of the Christian Church for a great many years, from which her funeral will be held this Tuesday afternoon. Burial in St. Jude's Cemetery.
