Ronald was born on February 25, 1921 in Paris, Idaho to Walter and Sarah Ellen Ludlum Bird. On May 20, 1946 he married Virginia Ruth McAbee in Moscow, Idaho and she preceded him in death.
Ronald served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received his Bachelor's Degree in 1943 and his Master's Degree in 1947 both from the University of Idaho. In 1965 he received his Doctorate from the University of Missouri. He worked as an Agricultural Economist for the U.S.D.A. until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Columbia. He will be remembered as an avid dancer who also served as a Scout leader and was a Past President of the Optimist Club.
Surivivors include his daughter, Virginia Darcey Slaughter and her husband Don of Columbia; grandson's, Scott Slaughter and wife Cindy of Normal, Illinois, Captain Damon Slaughter and wife Brandy and their children, Derick and Kyle all of Plato, Missouri.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bedford Bird; sisters, Geneal Sparks and Leah Tunks.
