Troy Dee "Bone" Acklin was born to the late Joseph and Leola Acklin on February 20, 1930 in Conway "Preston" Arkansas. He departed this life on January 13, 2011. Troy was an active member of the Mt. Gale Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Superintendent of the Sunday School and Usher Board until his death.
Troy was employed for over thirty five (35) years with the Union Pacific Railroads until he retired in 1994. Troy's love was riding his tractor and doing odd jobs in and around the Conway / Gold Lake / Mayflower community. After an accident on his job left him without legs, he found a way to rig that little red tractor and keep on trucking. He loved being outside and around those "young dudes", he would say. But when the day was done, you could see him riding his red tractor home with a smile because he had made that mon (money).
Troy was a loving husband to his wife, Mary for over fifty plus years. He was also a great father to five girls, Barbara Acklin Edwards (James) of Texas; Diane Acklin Foster (Roy, Jr.) of Little Rock; Deborah Acklin Blackwell (Harold, Jr.) of Atlanta; Beverly Acklin Bunting ( Theodore, Jr.) of Louisiana; Sandra Acklin of Maryland. His family was very important to him. Through his life experiences, he's always encouraged his family to love one another, take care of each other and never give up on yourself. He never had much education because of losing both parents and having to work and take care of a sick brother at a early age but he knew the importance of having education.
He had a quiet spirit with a genuine heart. He had many ups and downs during his life, but Troy never complained and never asked, "why me". He accepted whatever challenges life threw at him and faced them with the words, "I've got to be about my fathers business. I've got to keep on keeping on because I don't have time to feel sorry for myself."
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mary, his five daughters, Barbara, Diane, Deborah, Beverly and Sandra. One sister, Lillian Hopkins of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren, Aisha, Kerbie, Ryan, Trey and Troy; three great-grandchildren, Alexia, Channing and Kamorian and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
