Sarah Yake Carson was born November 4, 1865 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Gotlieb and Catherine Elizabeth (Nunnemaker) Yake.
At the age of 71 years, while a resident of Yakima County, Washington, she applied to be admitted to the Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil. She declared that she had lived continuously in the state since 1920. She qualified for membership as she was the widow of John D. Owen (her second marriage), who died 1 July 1932 in Naches, Washington. They had married in 1918 in Durango, Colorado. Mr. Owen was a veteran of the Spanish American War and served from December 17, 1898 to December 16, 1901 in Company "G" of the 10th U. S. Infantry.
Research shows her first husband was George Washington Morrison who she married on July 18, 1886 in Fulton, Missouri. She had one living child when she applied to the "Home", a daughter Jessie Naomi (Morrison) Moser of New Franklin, Missouri. They also had a son Ernest Cassius Morrison who died in 1918 in Portland, Oregon . Her next of kin was William Morrison, a grandson living in Fairview, Oregon.
Mrs. Owen was admitted to the Veterans' Home on June 12, 1935.
Sarah Owen married James M. Carson on August 2, 1941 in Retsil, Kistap County, Washington. He passed away in November 1944. Mrs. Carson passed away July 24, 1955 at the Veterans' Home Hospital and is buried in the cemetery there. She was 89 years of age.
