Donald Thomas Follmer, son of Ralph Wallace, Sr. and Marie (Yunker) Follmer, was born on April 8, 1925 on a farm near Oak, Nebraska. He passed away on April 25, 2003 at the Midlands Hospital in Papillion Nebraska at the age of 78 years and 17 days. He was one of 10 children.
Don attended Oak Elementary School and graduated from Nelson High School with the class of 1944.
On June 20, 1945 he was united in marriage to Muriel Troudt in Superior, Nebraska. This union was blessed with 9 children. He farmed west of Nelson and was a feed salesman for Bio-Zyme Products for 28 years. Donald enjoyed working with wood. He built three homes in his lifetime, the last of which is their present residence.
Don was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church serving several years as trustee.
Don enjoyed telling a good joke and conversing with friends and playing cards. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, son Craig, granddaughter Corina Krieser, 3 brothers: Ralph Jr., Richard and George, 4 sisters: Ellen Friend, Cathrine Hienz, Faith Crifasi and Mary Ann Troia.
Survivors include his wife Muriel of Nelson, Nebraska, 4 sons, and 4 daughters, Gary and wife Shirley of Superior, Nebraska, Dennis and wife Kathy of Davenport, Nebraska, Diane Krieser and husband Clark of Seward, Nebraska, Mike and wife Linda of Grand Island, Nebraska, Brenda Awsiukiewicz and husband Larry of Omaha, Nebraska, Gayle Follmer, Mark and wife Lyn of Lincoln, Nebraska, Shelley Kienow and husband Scott of Gretna, Nebraska; and 1 brother Jerry and wife Bernita of Bellevue, Nebraska, and 1 sister Jean Radosevich of Milford, Iowa, 19 grandchildren, Rodney and Tracy Follmer, Jason, Amy and Lacey Follmer, Nathan Krieser, April, Autumn, Andrew, Aaron and Alison Follmer, Jacob Awsiukiewicz, Kelsey, Kaitlyn and Karessa Follmer, Matthew, Thomas and Grace Kienow, and 2 great-grandchildren, Alana and Abigayle Krieser, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 2003, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Superior, Nebraska with Fr. Philip Luther officiating. Lector was Jerome Mazour and Altar Servers were Michael and Mark Porter. Music was congregational hymns "Be Not Afraid", "Gift of Finest Wheat:, "On Eagles Wings", "Sing of Mary" and "The Strife is O'er", with Carlita Price as organist.
Rosary Service was Monday, April 28, 2003 at 8:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nelson, Nebraska.
Pallbearers were Rodney Follmer, Jason Follmer, Andrew Follmer, Aaron Follmer, Nathan Krieser, Sam Troia, Jacob Awsiukiewicz, Matthew Kienow and Thomas Kienow. Honorary Pallbearers were Ivan Troudt, Ivan Jacobitz, Ed Heinz, Melvin Powell, Ron Porter, John Corman and Cleo Doggett.
Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.
In lieu of flower memorials may be given in care of the family.
Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements.
